Postdoctoral Researcher in Inverse Problems (m/f/nb)

to work in the Max Planck Fellow Group of Prof. Thorsten Hohage

The Fellow Group led by Thorsten Hohage is associated with the Department “Solar and Stellar Interiors” and studies numerical aspects and theoretical foundations of forward and inverse problems in helioseismology. The candidate may also profit from several other groups working on inverse problems and imaging on the Göttingen Campus within the Collaborative Research Center “Mathematics of Experiment: The challenge of indirect measurements in the natural sciences“, providing a vibrant atmosphere for research on these topics.

Your Tasks

  • Research on inverse problems in helioseismology
  • Collaboration with members of the Solar and Stellar Interiors Group at MPS, in particular concerning real data

Your Profile

  • PhD in mathematics or related areas with connections to inverse problems
  • Research experience in inverse problems in partial differential equations
  • Interest (ideally even experience) in (helio-)seismic inversions
  • Interest (ideally even experience) in interdisciplinary collaborations
  • Good command of the English language

Employment Conditions:

  • Compensation and benefits will be in accordance with the German Collective Agreement for the Public Service (the baseline is TVöD E13)
