The Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research (MPS) in Göttingen is one of the world's leading research institutions in the field of solar physics and planetary research with around 300 employees. The interdisciplinary research focus is the investigation of the development, diversity and dynamics of planets, moons, small bodies, the sun and solar-like stars. The MPS develops and operates scientific instruments for current and future space missions (e.g. ESA, NASA), and carries out cosmochemical laboratory investigations of meteorites as well as numerical modeling on state-of-the-art supercomputers.
For the current JAXA mission SOLAR-C_EUVST we are offering one position for a
Thermal Vacuum Test Engineer (f/m/d)
Main focus of the position will be on the independent development of test set-ups for qualification of components as well as of fully integrated instruments (thermal vacuum testing and instrument characterization) for space missions, execution of such tests, evaluation of results and documentation.
Your Tasks
- Definition and planning of the test activities
- Design of the ground support equipment (GSE) required to perform the tests
- Supervision of the production of the needed GSE through external manufacturers
- Support of the test activities and preparation of the required test reports
Your Qualification
- Degree in engineering (Master or equivalent) in aerospace engineering, or closely related
- Experience in mechanical design and/or vacuum technology for thermal tests
- Basic background in material science and chemistry
- Experience in operation, analysis and documentation of test systems for space qualification will be a bonus
- Experience in setting up vacuum test systems will be a bonus
- Very good knowledge of English (written and oral)
- Willingness to travel occasionally (within Germany and abroad)

- The position is to be filled as soon as possible and for a period of two years
- An extension may be possible depending on performance and availability of funding
- The position is rated EG 13 TVöD-Bund
